Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
(Psalms 119:105 KJV)
Think about a lighthouse.
For the sailor on a dark night,
a lighthouse helps in several ways.
a) the light from the lighthouse gives the
sailor an indication of the whereabouts
of the shoreline.
b) the beacon from the lighthouse
shines on rocky areas
along the coastline.
God’s word provides insight for our lives
in similar ways:
a) as we read God’s word,
“like the light giving direction re. the shoreline”
we receive direction about how we are
approaching events and decisions
in our lives.
b) in another way,
“like the beacon coming from the lighthouse”
the word of God warns us when
in our personal ways, we are choosing
a path which could be
more difficult or dangerous
than it needs to be.
If you can accept we have a God
who loves us and cares for us, then
it is reasonable to want to hear from Him.
It is reasonable to read His word
expecting it to be:
a lamp for our feet
and a light for our paths.
